Cardio machines have come a long way from the days of bulky, in-home treadmills. Cue Peloton, a brand of exercise machines that bring group workouts and the guidance of a personal trainer to your at-home workouts via a hi-tech app and touch screen.
Peloton’s latest holiday ad for its souped-up bike, “The Gift That Gives Back,” has garnered nearly 9 million views on YouTube—plus a whole lot of controversy. Watch the ad below:
The commercial shows a mom who receives a Peloton bike for Christmas from her husband. Over the next year, she makes videos to track her progress and eventually says, “a year ago, I didn’t realize how much this would change me. Thank you.” Some criticized the ad for being sexist, while others defended the ad as an accurate representation of their own fitness journeys.
Here’s the Truth
No matter what you thought of the ad, the truth is plain and simple. You don’t need to spring for a Peloton (or any other expensive piece of exercise equipment) to improve your health. And if you’re one of many who make a New Year’s Resolution to get fit, you’ll need all the support you can get to keep it.
The Peloton bike starts at $2,245, while the treadmill will cost you at least $4,295. At SwimQuest+Fit, you can get free Spinning, Zumba, Yoga and other classes as well as a free customized exercise program, plus access to both a stunning aquatics facility and a state-of-the-art fitness center for a fraction of that price.
SwimQuest+Fit also boasts a healthy lifestyle program called TRANSFORM that makes losing weight—and keeping it off—possible. We’re home to the only indoor pools in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties with 50-meter lanes. Eight-foot-wide lanes make for a wave-free swimming experience. There's also a smaller pool that’s used for our signature swim lessons and group exercise Aquacise classes, including Aqua Fusion and Aqua Intervals.
